What is an Alternative Health Professional?
An alternative health professional is generally described as a licensed and qualified health practitioner who uses treatments that are not generally taught in medical schools nor used by the mainstream (allopathic/orthodox) medical community. Such alternative treatments may be used alone or, when appropriate, in conjunction with mainstream medical treatment.
Alternative practitioners are also known as integrative, holistic, and complementary practitioners. Some medical doctors also utilize alternative treatments in their practices. The services they provide include, but are not limited to:
• Acupuncture
• Alternative medicine
• Ayurvedic medicine
• Complementary medicine
• Chelation therapy
• Detoxification therapy
• Herbal medicine
• Holistic medicine
|
• Homeopathy
• Integrative medicine
• Naturopathic medicine
• Nutritional medicine
• Chiropractic
• Oriental medicine
• Preventive medicine
|
Upon request, each alternative health practitioner will explain the type of alternative treatment they offer.
